Stop Bad Dog Behavior

If you own, or are thinking about owning a dog there are some things you will need to know about Dog Behavior if you are going to have a great relationship in the future. You must learn to stop bad dog behavior. When asked what is the biggest cause of bad dog behavior problems, most people would guess at lack of training, a 'dominance' problem, or inadequate socialisation.

Many bad dog behavior problems (such as barking, biting & digging) stem from a lack of communication, or miscommunication between you the owner and your dog. When growling or biting has erupted as a consequence of scolding or punishment for behavior such as chewing, jumping, general unruliness, or over protection of food, these problems must be dealt with swiftly and firmly to stop bad dog behavior or the aggression it is initiating. While some breeds are born with a greater tendency to become aggressive, problems usually occur in homes that knowing or unknowingly encourage the development of a dog’s aggressive behavior.

There are loads of bad dog behavior problems, they can affect all dog breeds, at any time throughout the dogs life. When dog behavior problems take place, the dog becomes the master instead. By understanding how your dog thinks and learning the reasons behind the habit, you will find it much easier to prevent or stop altogether.

Separation anxiety is a dog behavior problem that can take time to fix, but is definitely within the scope of your capabilities. If your animals are almost at the same age watch their behavior for some days to find out which dog is in the lead. Another key in breaking dog dominance behavior: Do NOT allow the dog to have what he wants “for free".

Without knowing it, you probably are giving him some attention by doing this, so he continues the dog behavior problem. You must stop the bad dog behavior and praising him isn't going to stop it. Whatever you do for your dog behavior problem, know that you are probably giving your dog mixed signals like giving him eye contact for jumping on you or talking to him when he does so. First, you need to make it uncomfortable for your dog to perform this dog behavior.

I am a strong believer in exercising your dog. I walk my dog everyday for 45 minutes to an hour. I can't stress enough the importance of exercising your dog everyday. Dogs get bored just as humans. They need to go out and explore just as they do in the wild.
